In October of 2014 I walked the length of Main Street in Beacon NY (and then back again) photographing the North and South sides of the street. Main Street is about a mile long.
The intent was to document the state of Main and use it as a baseline to gauge change over the next decade.
I retraced that journey on April 27th, 2020. This time the goal was to capture images of the now dormant city before the pandemic radically altered its fabric. Moving from building to building, I wondered, how many of our treasured businesses will survive, evolve, or disappear? My hope was that Beaconites will continue to help each other and work together to ensure that people can rebuilt their lives and fill these darkened storefronts and deserted sidewalks with vibrant life.
Well, Beacon is still here and thriving! Take a look at my latest walk from December 1st, 2023.
